The Police Museum in Prague is currently holding a rather unusual exhibition that is attracting record crowds. It looks at prostitution in Prague at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and at how the police tackled the problem in those days. On display are photos, police files, posters and also a number of curiosities.

Thursday saw the launch of a new three way Czech dictionary; giving the English, German and French translations of thousand of Czech words. While the dictionary is far too big to be taken on holiday - its makers are hoping that it will enable citizens of the EU to discuss the issues that affect them, and keep up with what's happening in Brussels. One out every four Members of the European Parliament — and two-thirds of the Czech MEPs — last month voted against adopting the European Constitution, that rather lengthy and complex document designed to govern relations between the now 25 EU Member States. Most Czech MEPs said they rejected the European Constitution because of the proposed formulas by which countries are "weighted" — meaning how much voting power they will have in future. The remaining games of the North-American National Hockey League season have been cancelled after players and owners failed to agree a new collective bargaining deal. This is the first time since 1919 that the NHL top prize - the Stanley Cup will not be awarded. Many NHL players already decided months ago -when the lockout began - not to waste time and moved to different national ice hockey leagues around Europe. A million Britons are set to visit the Czech Republic in the coming year, with well over half of them holidaying in Prague. The rise and rise of the 'budget airline' has given Brits a feasible - and cheap - alternative to a weekend at Butlins, or in the Yorkshire dales. Lights, camera, action! The 55th Berlinale, Berlin's International Film Festival, is underway this week. It's running until Saturday, and is based at the ultra-modern, brightly lit Potzdamer Platz. Besides screening films, the festival also provides opportunities for people in the film industry to come together and exchange ideas. This month is the 120th birthday of one of the most beautiful Prague concert halls - the Rudolfinum. But the building, down by the river in Prague's Old Town, and now home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, is not only a concert hall. The scandal over the Prime Minister's private finances has come to a head. In the 1950's the Bohemian ground squirrel was a common animal- in fact these small furry rodents were practically considered vermin. But due to agricultural changes their numbers have dropped dramatically and they are now classified as being critically endangered. Now, the largest population of ground squirrels in the Czech Republic is found in a rather unexpected place, a 76 hectare area of ground in Letnany, a rather bleak and faceless suburb of Prague.
