The Khamoro World Roma Festival started in Prague once again this Tuesday. The seventh festival of Roma culture will last one week with the highpoint being a gala concert in Prague's Lucerna Ballroom on Saturday.

In 1989, at the time of the collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, most of the international media focused on those events. Even later, during the process of transition to democracy, the Czech Republic occasionally caught the attention of the world. Today - 15 years after the fall of communism - events in this country have disappeared from the front pages of the international press. Why is that? And does this lack of interest work both ways? Are Czechs interested in what's going on in other countries?

Migration is one of the major issues of our age, as millions of people every year attempt to escape poverty and conflict, and build a better future for their children. Migration is also one of the main themes of a conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe taking place all this week in Prague. The OSCE's current chairman-in-office is Slovenia's foreign minister, Dimitrij Rupel. The Czech Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek embarked on a brief official visit to the United Kingdom on Monday. It was his first such trip since being named prime minister a month ago. Despite the formalities, he and Tony Blair had much more to discuss than just the weather. Their hour long talks covered such topical issues as the ratification of the European Constitution and the future of the political left in Europe. Martin Mikule spoke with Czech Radio's reporter in London, Milan Kocourek, who's been on top of the prime minister's trip.

The Czech carmaker SkodaAuto is making space on the factory floor for a brand new model. Known as the Roomster the new multi-purpose vehicle is to be officially launched next March at the Geneva autoshow and suppliers say Skoda has ambitious plans to sell up to 80,000 of the new cars annually.

Every year the Czech police receive several thousand reports of missing children. In 2004, the figure came close to ten thousand - that's in a country with a population of only ten million. With this Wednesday declared International Missing Children's Day, humanitarian organisations hope to bring awareness to the large number of children missing around the world and join forces to find more effective ways to reduce that number. Last week at a Council of Europe meeting in Warsaw, the Czech President Vaclav Klaus warned of what he called the dangerous influence of non-governmental organizations. President Klaus said that we are experiencing what he calls a "postdemocracy" - a society where democracy is being put under pressure by different groups which having no mandate from democratic elections still have an ambition to determine lives of citizens. But Mr Klaus's words have upset many people - not just those working in the non-profit sector, but also a group of former dissidents.

The Czech Republic's famous fleet of Soviet-made MiG-21 fighter jets flew a final flight at the weekend after thirty years of service. Thousands came out to see the show as well as to greet the MiGs' successors: the country's new Gripen fighters from Sweden. How do the planes compare? It's a whole new world.

In the Czech Republic, when a loved one passes away the grieving family either has their body buried or cremated - a more individualized and personal approach to keeping the memory of a loved one alive is not at hand. But in a year or two, Czechs will have a third choice: to turn the remains of their loved ones into a shining gem. Dita Asiedu has this report:

Relations between Cuba and the Czech Republic have been thorny for some years, with vocal opposition to the Castro regime in Prague. Now Havana has increased tensions yet again, expelling Czech senator Karel Schwarzenberg just hours after he arrived in Cuba for an opposition meeting. Mr Schwarzenberg arrived in Cuba on Thursday on a tourist visa, and insisted he had not broken any law. Meanwhile, the Czech Foreign Minister describes his expulsion as unacceptable, saying it proves that Cuba is a totalitarian state.
