Třeboňsko nature reserve spans an area of 700 km2 in the far south of Bohemia. Lying east of the hilly terrain of the Šumava region, the area is notable for its remarkably flat landscape – and is the only vast non-hilly environment of its kind in the Czech Republic to receive such special protection as a so-called CHKO (or landscape park). Not only that, but the Třeboň basin is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Telč is a small Czech town in the heart of the hilly Vysočina region, about 150 km south-east of Prague. Železná Ruda is a small Czech town deep in the heart of the Šumava national park. Český Krumlov is a small town situated in the far south of Bohemia, about 25km from the city of České Budějovice. Bordering the Šumava region, the UNESCO World Heritage site is surrounded by a countryside of gentle, rolling hills. The village of Čížov is a tiny settlement near Národní park Podyjí, the smallest national park in the Czech Republic, and the only national park in Moravia. The wine flowed freely and the music played until the small hours at the annual costume ball in the town of Vlčnov last Saturday. The ball annually launches the reign of the new boy-king elected by the young men who’d come of age the previous year.
