The Czech Republic has a new entry in the famous Guinness Book of World Records. Czech pensioner Zdeněk Chvoj has been declared the oldest person to ski to both Poles. Mr Chvoj was 71 years old when he skied to the South Pole on January 12, this year. 72-year-old Zděnk Chvoj from Prague has become a new world record holder. In April 2018, Mr Chvoj visited the North Pole and in January this year, he also reached the other side of the globe.

Following a wave of protests in the United States and many other European cities against police violence after the killing of the African American George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, a demonstration was held in Prague on Saturday. Hundreds of protesters gathered in the centre of Prague and marched towards the US Embassy to express their solidarity in the fight against racism. We spoke to some of them about the demonstration and the goals they believe it could achieve.

The Czech government has agreed to introduce a 5 percent digital tax on the local revenues of internet giants such as Amazon, Google and Facebook. The aim is twofold: to boost state coffers by billions of crowns and level the playing field for domestic rivals.

It took thirty years for the Czech authorities to buy out a pig farm that was built on the site of a WWII concentration camp for Romani and Sinti people at Lety in South Bohemia. The sale was finally sealed last year and demolition work on the pig farm is due to begin in the coming months. Plans are also afoot to transform the area into a dignified memorial for the more than 300 men, women and children who died there. The winner of an architectural competition for a memorial on the site was announced this week, as Vincent Farnsworth reports.
