Five people, including the prime minister and the high state prosecutor in Olomouc Ivo Ištvan, testified before a parliamentary commission on Tuesday on the subject of leaks from police files. The commission was called to investigate following the leak of internal police information in taped conversations between a journalist and ANO leader Andrej Babiš.

A travelling exhibition called the National Chronicle is now on display at the Václav Havel Square besides Prague’s National Theatre. It presents the outcomes of a project carried out by the Charter 77 Foundation along with the National Museum in which seniors share their memories of the past in order to document and preserve the memory of the nation.

The Vltava River at Prague’s Mánes exhibition hall turned blood-red on Monday afternoon, after activists from an art group calling themselves Bolt958 poured an unknown substance into the water. The group charged that the famous art gallery “was bleeding”. The protest was over how the space, in their view, is being misused.

An exhibition dedicated to the famous shoe designer Manolo Blahnik is now on display at Prague’s Kampa Museum. Entitled Manolo Blahnik: The Art of Shoes, the exhibition explores the nearly 50-year-long career of the visionary designer. The iconic shoes, which many women know from films and TV series, such as the Sex and the City or Marie Antoinette, will be on display at the Kampa Museum until November 12.

A remembrance ceremony is being held in Prague on Monday early evening marking the 72nd anniversary of the return of Czechoslovak aviators who served with Britain’s RAF during WWII. Among those in attendance is set to be one of the last surviving Czech RAF men, Brigadier General Emil Boček.

News the police are seeking to lift the parliamentary immunity of ANO leader Andrej Babiš to investigate the so-called Stork’s Nest affair exploded last week just over two months before parliamentary elections. Polls have consistently suggested Babis’ will win those elections. But any suggestion that the investigation will stand in the way of Babiš becoming prime minister have been dismissed by none other than the president himself.

Police have asked the lower house to waive parliamentary immunity in the case of MPs Andrej Babiš, the leader of the ANO party, and his deputy chairman Jaroslav Faltýnek. The police are pursuing an investigation regarding the Stork’s Nest – a recreation centre and hotel complex which belonged to a firm owned by Mr Babiš’ agro-chemical giant, Agrofert. The company received a 50 million crown EU grant for small and medium sized companies in what may have constituted fraud.

Lukáš Houdek is a Czech artist, a leading figure in the Hate Free initiative, and an openly gay campaigner for LGBTQ rights. During Prague Pride week, I asked him how he thinks the Czech Republic fares as a tolerant country:

A plan put forth by the Italian government for rescue organisations operating in the Mediterranean to adhere to a code of conduct when rescuing migrants from Africa has been rejected by a number of NGOs, including the Swiss-based Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres). I spoke with the head of its Czech division, Pavel Gruber, and began by asking him to explain the reasoning behind the decision:

The Czech Republic has filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Justice against a new European Union directive restricting possession of firearms. The stated aim of the directive is to prevent terrorists gaining weapons easily, but Prague claims it will only hurt responsible arms holders and hunters.
