Less than two weeks after the Czech government lost a no-confidence vote, the three parties in the outgoing coalition and the opposition Social Democrats announced on Sunday evening that they had reached agreement on a new interim prime minister to lead the country until early elections. His name is Jan Fischer, and if you’ve never heard of him, don’t worry, the vast majority of Czechs haven’t either.

US President Barack Obama told thousands of cheering fans on Sunday that he was proud to be the man who had brought Michelle Obama to Prague. While her husband spent the day in talks with EU leaders, Mrs Obama went on a tour of one of the city’s most famous historic monuments – the old Jewish ghetto. Her guide was Michaela Sidenberg, of the Jewish Museum in Prague, who says the First Lady had a special petition to make.

EU leaders met with US President Barack Obama at an informal summit of the European Union and the United States in Prague on Sunday. Prague is preparing to host the biggest event of the Czech EU presidency – an EU-US summit attended by the leaders of the 27 and US President Barack Obama. It is President Obama’s first European tour since his inauguration and he is expected to deliver his first public speech abroad in the Czech capital.

The New Testament was actually published a decade ago, though only now have translators managed to complete the Old Testament. One consequence of the fall of the government last week is increased uncertainty over when the Czech Republic will adopt the common European currency. A target date for joining the euro had been promised for November, but the cabinet that made that pledge will probably be long gone by then.
