A battle of wills has broken out between the Czech Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek and President Vaclav Klaus. Mr. Klaus is a strong critic of the EU Constitution and his provocative remarks with regard to the treaty have raised the strongly pro-European Prime Minister's hackles. Mr Paroubek said on Thursday that Mr. Klaus had overstepped his mandate when he criticized the EU Constitution during foreign visits, and made it clear that this would not be tolerated in future.

It will be a long time before memories fade over such an incredible football match: Liverpool vs. AC Milan in their Champions League final on Wednesday. After taking a three goal drubbing in the first half, Liverpool roared back with three goals in just six minutes to complete their return from the dead. One of those who scored was Czech player Vladimir Smicer, who struck in both regulation time - and penalties - to help Liverpool take the match.

Sixty years after the end of the German occupation, the Czech Republic's Roma community finally has hope that a concentration camp where several hundred Romanies died, will be turned into a proper memorial site. Following pressure from the European Parliament and activists here in the Czech Republic, the Czech government has announced that it will take steps to acquire the site and secure the relocation of a pig farm that has become a deep international embarrassment to the country.

The American weekly Time magazine has just published a list of the 100 best films ever, compiled by its two much-respected film critics Richard Schickel and Richard Corliss. The list, which includes such American classics as The Godfather and Pulp Fiction, is well-balanced, containing many non—US titles, among them 'Closely Watched Trains' -one of only three Czech films to ever earn the Best Foreign-Language Oscar.

The Czech carmaker SkodaAuto is making space on the factory floor for a brand new model. Known as the Roomster the new multi-purpose vehicle is to be officially launched next March at the Geneva autoshow and suppliers say Skoda has ambitious plans to sell up to 80,000 of the new cars annually.

Every year the Czech police receive several thousand reports of missing children. In 2004, the figure came close to ten thousand - that's in a country with a population of only ten million. With this Wednesday declared International Missing Children's Day, humanitarian organisations hope to bring awareness to the large number of children missing around the world and join forces to find more effective ways to reduce that number.
