The Czech police are currently working on a project aimed at teaching officers how to treat members of ethnic minorities. The project also involves integrating members of minority groups into the police force. Czech officers are cooperating with their British counterparts who have decades of experience with different minorities. Radio Prague spoke about the project with the Czech Human Rights Commissioner Jan Jarab.

Easter is fast approaching and Prague seems to be well prepared for celebrating. While painted eggs, thrashing rods and chocolate hares are available throughout the city, a huge Easter market has opened in the Old Town Square in the historical centre. By This week the Czech branch of Greenpeace presented the public with a Czech translation of Eric Millstone's book Genetic Manipulation in Court. The book is a collection of scientific evidence presented in court in defense of 28 British Greenpeace activists who were charged with damaging private property after they destroyed a field of GM corn for fear of what it might do to the surrounding environment.

Do Czech women enjoy equal rights on the job market? This question has long been a hot topic here in the Czech Republic. This week a new centre to help women opened its doors. It's called the National Contact Centre, and aims to support women making a career in the sciences. For the next two weeks women scientists will have a chance to pop in and get more information about its activities.

In recent months there has been a worrying increase in the number of tuberculosis patients in the Czech Republic. A disease which many people thought had been eradicated in this part of the world is back, spread mainly by illegal immigrants from the East who avoid the usual series of medical check ups which all legal asylum seekers must undertake.
