In this pre-Christmas time we bring you the last Czech language programme this year, and of course, it is a Christmas special. The Czech word for Christmas, Vánoce, is of German origin, from the term Weinachten, or holy nights.

Yes, another week has passed and it's time for a new letter in our Czech language programme in which we follow the alphabet. It's "w" this time, so let's talk about the weather. The word for weather is poèasí. It comes from the word èas, which means time. The weather is a very important part of our life and that's why at the end of every Radio Prague news bulletin you can find a weather forecast - pøedpovìï poèasí.

Hello and welcome to another episode of Radio Prague's Czech language programme, the ABC of Czech. We are nearing the end of the alphabet - today's letter is V and with it comes the topic of village life. In this sense, the letter v works well in Czech, too, for village is vesnice and the rural countryside is venkov.
