It has been six years since the eastward expansion of the North Atlantic
Treaty Organisation, NATO. Since then, the Alliance has changed
significantly. Before its expansion, it had never fought a war. But less
than two weeks after the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, joined on
March 12, 1999, the NATO launched a 78-day military operation in Kosovo.
