Hello and welcome to Radio Prague. In today’s Sunday Music Show we look at the latest album by the alternative pop group Tata Bojs, one of the Czech Republic’s best known bands. Critics have referred to A/B as the band’s most pop-sounding album, nevertheless it still contains all the ingredients that distinguish Tata Bojs from other Czech bands: a signature dance sound, creative lyrics, word plays, and original guests.

Today’s Sunday Music Show puts the spotlight on Tonya Graves, the Prague-based US singer, who has just released her second album, the positively received Back to Blues. Graves, known mainly as the lead singer for the band Monkey Business, offers her original take on some of the legendary blues songs, from B.B. King to Ray Charles and Jimi Hendrix.

The summer release Kontakt is the third LP by Kittchen, the masked man of Czech DIY pop. The follow-up to Radio, which picked up an Anděl award for best alternative album in 2012, it finds the mysterious musician cooking up more top class – to quote his Vimeo page – “industrial kitchen sounds and alternative folk”.

Sunday Music Show brings you the haunting, dream-like music of the duo Tara Fuki. The two female cellists and singers are hard to categorize saying they bring music from dreams and the subconscious, weaving fragile but powerful creations “as thin as a spiderweb.“

In this edition of Sunday Music, a famous building block system, Star Wars, handyman 'anti-talents' Pat and Mat and the autumn sniffles are discussed.

This week’s show is devoted to the Czech, maybe betweer described as Czech-Canadian, swing pianist, composer, lyricist and arranger Jiří Traxler.

The leading Prague guitar band Please the Trees have just returned with their rawest LP to date. Recorded in Detroit over just two days, the well-received Carp finds Václav Havelka and Co. turning everything up to 11 to create a sonic maelstrom that is not for the fainthearted.

Today’s Sunday Music Show is dedicated to Jan Svěrák’s low-budget road movie Jízda and the accompanying soundtrack by the band Buty. Jízda, or the Ride, is one of the most distinctive movies of the 1990s, and is a perfect embodiment of the carefree atmosphere of the early post-revolution days. With its easy-listening music and playful lyrics Buty provided a perfect backdrop to the film, which has lost none of its charm to this day.

In this week’s Sunday Music show we profile Marta and Tena Elefteriadu, two Greek sisters who grew up in the Czech Republic and who brought Greek music, dance and food to this country.
