Today’s Sunday Music Show is dedicated to Jan Svěrák’s low-budget road movie Jízda and the accompanying soundtrack by the band Buty. Jízda, or the Ride, is one of the most distinctive movies of the 1990s, and is a perfect embodiment of the carefree atmosphere of the early post-revolution days. With its easy-listening music and playful lyrics Buty provided a perfect backdrop to the film, which has lost none of its charm to this day.

In this week’s Sunday Music show we profile Marta and Tena Elefteriadu, two Greek sisters who grew up in the Czech Republic and who brought Greek music, dance and food to this country.

Today's Sunday Music Show marks the 30th anniversary of one of the Czech Republic's most respected alternative bands Už Jsme Doma. The avant garde punk group, which rose to prominence after the Velvet Revolution in 1989, celebrates thirty years of its existence with a new album entitled Tři křížky, offering a fresh take on their most popular songs.

Květy were formed in Brno in 1993 when two of the members were still at elementary school. One of them, Martin Evžen Kyšperský (35), still leads the group today. The singer-guitarist and his band-mates have just returned with their sixth LP, the positively received Miláček slunce (Sun Lover).

Today's Sunday Music Show turns the spotlight on Czech singer Johannes Benz and his debut album One Way Road. Johannes Benz is the artistic alter ego of the singer, musician, composer and filmmaker Jan Foukal. The album originated during his trip to the US, and is a blend of folk, rock and American country music.

This week’s Sunday Music Show profiles a well-known Czech retro band that will take you back to the 1920s and 30s –Ondřej Havelka’s Melody Makers. The band plays American and Central European jazz and swing bringing with it the glamour and spirit of the interwar period with original instruments, hairdos and costumes.

It seems hard to believe, but Czech conductor Vladimír Válek, who headed the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra for 26 years, turned 80 this week.

Prague dance outfit Ohm Square have been around since the mid-1990s when they made a splash as purveyors or live drum’n’bass and breakbeat and featured on some of the era’s most memorable Czech movie soundtracks. Last year the group, now slimmed down to the duo of Charlie One (Charlotte Fairman) and Jan 2 (Jan Čechtický), returned after a long absence with the LP A Curious Place Between Souls and Atoms on leading local indie label Starcastic.
