In this week’s pre-Christmas Sunday music show we profile the International Choir of Prague, specifically its adult choir. You will hear recordings of the choir’s live performances from past concerts, with a Christmas-themed ending.

In this edition of Sunday Music Show: Czech and international Christmas hits with Lucie Bílá. The queen of Czech pop shot to fame in the 1990s and has dominated the Czech music scene ever since. We are now offering you a selection from her one and only Christmas album issued in 2010.

The Czech bluegrass band Druhá tráva has just released a new album Telč. One part of the album captures the band’s concert at a summer festival in the town of Telč last year, the other – coming out in a limited edition – contains songs Druhá Tráva’s recorded live with their friends and collaborators including Peter Rowan and Charlie McCoy.

The prog-fusion LP Kuře v hodinkách (Chicken in the Watch) by Flamengo, which was reissued this year on the 40th anniversary of its original release, is regarded as one of the greatest albums in the history of Czech rock. Looking back at its genesis, the group’s leader at the time, Vladimír Mišík, says Flamengo were in the form of their lives when they recorded Kuře v hodinkách, whose replacement lyrics by a regime-approved poet helped lift the project to a higher level.

This week the popular Czech performer Petra Janů celebrated her 60th birthday with a sold-out concert at Prague’s Lucerna and a compilation three CD release. Well-wishers included guests like iconic fellow singer Marta Kubišová, Eva Pilarová and many others.

In this week’s Sunday Music Show we listen to music by the soulful a capella group Yellow Sisters and speak with one of its four members Bára Vaculíková (and her young daughter). Antonia, Bára, Hawa and Leňa have been singing together since 2005, using their versatile voices to create full, rhythmical and often playful music.

This week’s Sunday Music Show profiles chanson singer, guitarist and composer Lenka Filipová. The singer, who started out as a classical guitar player and developed into a successful chanson singer has enchanted audiences in Prague and Paris and recorded more than two dozen albums in a career spanning more than 30 years.

In this edition: the Czech singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Radůza has released a new album entitled Ocelový město, or City of Steel. The album, acclaimed for its full and varied sound, was recorded at a series of live shows in Prague’s Malostranská beseda in March of this year.

In this week’s edition of the Sunday Music Show well be focussing on music in Czech film – rock and pop hits from the 1960s up to the Noughties.
