During the summer season the country’s castles and chateaux resound with live music as a backdrop to the fencing, dancing, food tasting and hand-craft events that take place there. In addition to medieval music the atmosphere of these historic sites is perfectly complemented by early music, haunting English, Scottish and Irish ballads as performed by two Czech bands Ginevra and Asonance. This week’s Sunday Music show will bring you the best of the latter group which this year celebrates 40 years on stage.

Today’s edition of Sunday Music Show is dedicated to the rock and blues singer and guitarist Michal Prokop and his 1972 album Město ER, which has been reissued on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Prokop, who has been part of the Czech music scene for over 50 years, marked the anniversary last weekend with a special concert in Loket. For the first time ever, audiences had a chance to hear a live performance of the art-rock composition Město ER, featuring Michal Prokop with his band Framus Five, accompanied by the Karlovy Vary Symphonic

Anyone familiar with the Czech music scene, will probably at some point heard of the blues band Krausberry, led by frontman Martin Kraus.

Dalekko – comprising Gian Baban and Pavel Sajner – won a lot of praise for their self-released 2015 debut album Neběžel jsem tudy? The impressive Prague-based group have been described as “clever mainstream”, no doubt thanks to their thoughtful lyrics and cultured but catchy tunes.

In today's Sunday Music Show we will be listening to songs from Markéta Konvičková’s last two albums – TABLO and Kafe, bar a nikotin. Markéta Konvičková is a 22 year old Czech pop singer who first rose to fame in 2009 as a finalist on the Czech and Slovak TV series SuperStar. In 2010 she won the award for "New Artist" at the Český slavík awards. She has since released three albums.

Today's Sunday Music Show is dedicated to the popular Czech pop-rock band Chinaski and their most recent album Rockfield, released in 2014. It was named after the famous Rockfield Studios in Wales, where the album was recorded.

Elegy for Unsung Heroes, the solo debut by Dizzcock (AKA music journalist Ondřej Bělíček), picked up the Vinyl award for best Czech album of 2015. Informed by rave and grime, the atmospheric, accomplished LP is intended as a tribute to “all who fought for a better, more equal and solidary world.”

This week’s edition of Sunday Music Show is dedicated to the legendary country and folk music festival Porta, which celebrates its 50th edition this weekend. Established in 1967 by a group of music enthusiasts, the festival gradually evolved into one of the largest events of its kind in Europe and many of the country’s most respected folk musicians launched their careers there. Today we are going to listen to some of the greatest hits that were played at Porta over the past 50 years.

In this week’s Sunday Music show we present the outstanding Czech pianist Lukáš Vondráček who recently won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition for young musicians in Brussels with a breath-taking performance of Sergei Rachmaninov. A child prodigy, Vondráček gave his first concert at the age of four, went on his first international tour at the age of 10 and performed in Carnegie Hall at sixteen. Today he is a recognized musician who has given over a thousand concerts in 27 countries around the world.
