Mayen, aka Lukáš Vydra, first came to attention with the excellent 2013 EP Wonder Years. Now Mayen’s wondrous jangly guitar and perfectly formed indie-pop songs are back on the six-track release Elegy, earning across the board plaudits and lots of new fans for the young Prague-based musician.

This week’s Sunday Music Show profiles one of the country’s most popular country and music bands: The Rangers. The band, which was founded 50 years ago by a group of six students, is celebrating 50 years on stage with a series of concerts and a 3-CD collection of their goldies.

With the summer holidays just around the corner, this edition of Sunday Music show turns the spotlight on the best known campfire staples, from old tramping songs to songs by famous folk musicians such as the Nedvěd brothers or Karel Kryl.

Tábor’s Kalle are one of the more interesting newish bands on the Czech music scene. Guitarist David Zeman and singer Veronika Buriánková, who may quite possibly have heard a PJ Harvey LP or two, put down eight tracks as demos last year but then realised they were good enough to put out. The resulting Live from the Room was among the most acclaimed local releases of 2014.

We’ll hear songs from her highly acclaimed latest album Na radosti.
