Tábor’s Kalle are one of the more interesting newish bands on the Czech music scene. Guitarist David Zeman and singer Veronika Buriánková, who may quite possibly have heard a PJ Harvey LP or two, put down eight tracks as demos last year but then realised they were good enough to put out. The resulting Live from the Room was among the most acclaimed local releases of 2014.

In this week's Sunday Music we go mining for rock as well as pop gems.

This week’s Sunday Music show is devoted to pop singer Aneta Langerová who dominated the Czech music industry's annual Anděl awards a few weeks ago, picking up the prizes for best female singer, best album, best song and best music video. We’ll hear songs from her highly acclaimed latest album Na radosti.

This week’s Sunday Music Show is dedicated to the award-winning singer and songwriter Lenka Dusilová, whose music is distinguished for drawing inspiration from different styles and genres. We will be listening to her most recent albums released in collaboration with her indie-pop band Baromantika.

The Czech band Vltava was established in 1986 by the singer Robert Nebřenský and other renowned musicians.

The hit comedy Samotáři (The Loners) was a generational film exploring the lives of aimless young people a decade after the fall of communism. The year 2000 movie’s clubby soundtrack today feels like something of a time capsule, with names like the Ecstasy of St. Theresa, Ohm Square and Here highly evocative of the Prague of that era.

Planets, the sun and outer space are the focus of this week’s Sunday Music.

Lots of Czech musicians of the younger generation have recently turned their attention to children.

This week’s Sunday Music show is devoted to the king of Czech country music Michal Tučný who recorded over two dozen albums and packed concert halls around the country. Although Tučný died twenty years ago he is a legend on the Czech country and folk scene and his hits remain popular to this day.

With spring just around the corner, this edition of Sunday Music features songs about love and sex. And rabbits. You’ll hear music from Lucie Bílá, Michal Hrůza, the great Marie Rottrová, Václav Neckář and others.
