I am currently in the outlook-tower of the town of Susice in South Bohemia, from which I can see all the way to Austria and Germany. Today, Susice forms one of the natural gateways into the heart of the Sumava Natural Park and the Sumava Mountains. I am currently standing at the foot of a massive hill between the cities of Prague and Pilsen on top of which Bahna 2003 - the "Day of the Czech Ground Forces", is currently being held for the 14th year. Czech Radio, or Cesky Rozhlas, has been at its current location at 12 Vinohradska Street (known in those days as Foch Street) since 1933, ten years after the station was launched. In those days it was known as Radiojournal, which is now the name of it's flagship station here in the Czech Republic. Oldrich Cip is a world renowned expert on short-wave radio and has been working here at Czech Radio for around 40 years. There seems to be no end in sight to the rush of cars on Milada Horakova avenue in Prague, one of the main arteries leading through the Czech capital. The historical spa town of Podebrady lies on the river Elbe just 50km east of Prague. Surrounded by meadows, woods and a natural park, the town is ideal for recreation and outdoor sports. In 1905, an exceptionally powerful spring of curative mineral water was discovered in the courtyard of the Podebrady castle. The carbonic spas with their ferrous water have been curing illnesses of the heart, circulatory system, and blood vessels, since 1908.

Benatky nad Jizerou in Central Bohemia - a beautiful little town, just under an hour away from Prague with a population of 6700 - was founded on the site of a prehistoric settlement at the crossroads of market ways. The oldest documentation about the town dates back to 1052.

The TV in the corner at the Czech and Slovak Club in the north London suburb of West Hampstead carries a Czech TV broadcast of an Extraliga ice hockey game. A few young men, Czechs and Slovaks, keep one eye on the early evening hockey game, have a chat and enjoy a pint of quality Czech beer.

In Spotlight last time we looked at a special little cafe in Dejvice in Prague 6, a picturesque part of the city that includes many leafy lanes, quiet walks, and villa districts, close to the city's famous Stromovka park and accessible from the Dejvice and Hradcanska metro stations. This week we complete our look at Prague 6 hang-out spots you might want to visit, either on your way from the Castle, or on your way to Stromovka park. One is a fast-food eatery specialising in Mexican fast food, something that is not nearly as common in Prague as
