Michal Papadopulos has finally received a Greek passport, clearing the way for a fairytale move from Banik Ostrava to one of Europe's biggest clubs, Arsenal. The 18-year-old says Arsenal's management were keen for him to join as soon as possible. Only one player left the Czech ice hockey Extraliga for the NHL during the latter's transfer season and Swiss Open winner Jiri Novak is on the courts again, this time in Stuttgart.

The Czech number one, Jiri Novak, has won the 550,000-Euro Swiss Open tennis tournament. After a great run of results, the Czech Republic's volleyball team have finished in fourth place at the World Series finals in Madrid. Jana Pechanova has taken silver in the 5 kilometre race at the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona and boxer Rudolf Kraj has won the second major medal of his career.
