At the weekend all eyes were on Jested near Liberec, which was the venue for the latest stage of the ski-jumping World Cup. Horst Siegl, with an impressive 160 league goals the leading scorer still active in Czech football, has rejected an offer from Katar and signed with Pilsen. And Sparta Prague ice hockey club marked their hundredth anniversary on Saturday, though a home defeat was not the ideal way to celebrate.

Experienced Czech drivers Karel Loprais and Tomas Tomecek will be hoping to do well in the famous Paris to Dakar rally, as will Jana Tylsova, the first woman to ever take part in the famous race.

Pavel Nedved, the Czech international football captain, has been named the Czech Sportsman of the Year, the first footballer to ever win the award.
