All of today's dailies reflect on Israel's assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder and spiritual leader of the militant Palestinian group Hamas, killed by an Israeli helicopter rocket on Monday. Various headlines read "Sharon had Sheikh Yassin Killed" and "The Middle East in Fury", while Mlada Fronta Dnes writes "On the edge of war: Palestinians promise revenge".

The front pages of most of today's papers feature photos of popular Czech singer Jaromir Nohavica who was inducted to the Hall of Fame by the Academy of Popular Music on Saturday during a ceremony announcing the winners of the Golden Angel Award.

Once again topics dominating the front pages include the war on - and the prevention of - terrorism with both Mlada Fronta Dnes and Lidove Noviny describing the latest request that the elite Czech anti-chemical unit to be posted in Athens during this year's Summer Olympic Games. After last week's bombings in Madrid Greece asked NATO for Czech help to bolster security during the games but, as Mlada Fronta Dnes writes, nothing has been decided so far.

There is a wide mix of stories that top the headlines in Thursday's Czech dailies - among them reaction to Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez's inflammatory statements on Wednesday at the UN Conference on Human Rights. Mr Perez called the Czech Republic as a 'lackey' and 'toadie' of the United States, in reaction to the Czech's condemnation to Cuba's record on human rights.

Last Thursday's events in Madrid continue to make headlines in Czech newspapers almost a week later. Both Lidove Noviny and Pravo lead with stories about breakthroughs in the investigation of the Madrid attacks. "Police know murderers from Madrid", reads a headline in Lidove Noviny and Pravo chooses similar language: "Spain knows the names of the murderers."

All papers lead with Monday's announcement by Spain's prime minister-elect Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero that all 1,300 Spanish troops would be pulled out of Iraq by June 30. They speculate as to whether it is a wise decision, wonder what country's soldiers would fill the gap, and continue to analyse international security after Thursday's bomb blasts in Madrid. Domestically, it is a mix of stories that make the front pages ranging from criticism of the Czech Republic's lax approach to last-minute preparations for EU membership to the row between

The outcome of the Spanish elections in the light of the Madrid massacre, the security situation in Europe and President Putin's election victory in Russia -those are the lead stories on today's front pages. Election terror brings Spaniards to the polls, says a headline in Lidove Noviny. "It was Al Qaeda" reads the headline in today's Pravo, while Mlada Fronta Dnes has picked a horrifying quote from the Al Qaeda videotape acknowledging responsibility for the massacre "we like dying as much as you like living".

All the Czech dailies dedicate most of their front page space to Thursday's terrorist attacks in the Spanish capital Madrid in which almost 200 people died and around 1,400 were injured. All papers carry photos of the scenes of devastation as well as pictures of rescue workers and medical personnel helping the victims.

All of Thursday's dailies feature cover photos of former Finance Minister Ivo Svoboda and his former assistant Barbora Snopkova leaving court after being handed down guilty sentences for fraud. The baseball-capped Mr Sovoboda and bee-hived Mrs Snopkova look visibly shaken by the verdict, which sent both sent to prison for five years. Both immediately appealed the decisions. If the sentences are confirmed it will mark the first time a former government minister in the Czech Republic spends time behind bars.

All Czech dailies are unanimous in their choice of the main story today: the government's failure to push through a bill on rents in a vote which experts said would test the strength of the ruling coalition. Mlada Fronta Dnes says that the important bill was not refused by the lower house just because of two MPs that recently left the junior coalition Freedom Union. The reason was that several coalition MPs were on foreign trips and the opposition easily rejected the bill, Mlada Fronta Dnes explains.
