People who like to eat their breakfast while browsing through Mlada Fronta Dnes are likely to choke over their coffee this morning. "The food you are eating may be full of poisons" reads one of the headlines. It is a disturbing article, in particular for those Czechs who live close to chemical plants.

The reform of public finance approved yesterday by the government and the following protest rally of trade unionists in Prague seize the headlines in all major dailies on Tuesday. The front pages of PRAVO and MLADA FRONTA DNES show photos of the same female demonstrator wolf-whistling. HOSPODARSKE NOVINY has a picture of another protesting woman, hooting a horn, while LIDOVE NOVINY shows Prime Minister Vladimir Spidla waving his fist while addressing the crowd.

Government reform plans and the future of the European Union dominate the headlines today. On the international front, the papers discuss whether the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was killed in the recent war and whether he had managed to destroy weapons of mass destruction before the US-led war erupted.

Fiasco is the best way to describe the end of yesterday's protests by trade unions in Prague against the proposed public finance reforms, say all of today's dailies. Prague wasn't turned upside down as promised by organizers, because far less protestors than expected showed up. But trade unions promise a higher turnout for new protests on Monday, reports MLADA FRONTA DNES.

Today's newspapers offer different opinions and prognoses of the trade union protests in Prague against the government's reform of public finances. MLADA FRONTA DNES warns that the protests and threatened strikes will not succeed, and quotes the finance minister, Bohuslav Sobotka, who has rejected any negotiations about the reforms, which he describes as optimal and necessary.

Most papers lead today with news that some of the country's doctors are planning strike action this Thursday, while other dailies, like LIDOVE NOVINY, trumpet former President Vaclav Havel's return to politics as a goodwill ambassador. And there's also coverage of the Roma families in Slany who are literally living on the street after being evicted for not paying rent.

The news that a planned strike at Czech Airlines had been averted came too late for the papers - but the issue of higher wages and improved contracts for pilots appears on many a front page. "Welcome to the EU and back to reality" reads a front page headline in .

The business daily Hospodarske noviny warns that Czechs are the greatest sceptics among the European Union candidates, with the turnout lowest after Hungary and Slovakia. Czechs are the masters of scepticism, the daily quotes the chairman of the Czech Senate Petr Pithart.

Those of you allergic to the European Union will do well to avoid today's papers - the press is awash in a sea of blue and yellow, as editors queue up to outdo each other in impassioned pleas urging people to vote for EU accession. MLADA FRONTA DNES sums it up with a huge "YES" on its front page.

Just one day to go before the referendum on the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union, and all of the daily newspapers are understandably filled with reports on the EU. But, interestingly, they do not dominate all of the front pages: the headlines of and do deal with the EU referendum, but and 's first pages focus more on the latest suicide bombing in Jerusalem and the CSA pilots' strike set for Tuesday.
