The Czech Republic's EU entry, as approved by the Czechs in referendum last weekend, will bring about changes in many respects. One of them is the opening of markets, implying free movement of goods, capital and labour. The possibility to work abroad was even one of the main points in the government's promotion campaign before the referendum. Some of the current EU countries are going to limit the inflow of workers from the new member states for a transitional period of two to seven years. There has been a long tradition of wine production in the Czech Republic. It is believed that wine production in the dates as far back as the year 276, where a conquering Roman legion laid out the plans for a vineyard in the Moravian town of Palavain. Today, almost one and a half million hectoliters of wine are consumed annually by Czechs. Although these numbers are much lower than the traditional drink in the Czech Republic beer, wine is gaining in popularity.
