Czech political leaders have offered their condolences to Germany in the wake of Monday’s terrorist attack on a Christmas market in Berlin which killed 12 people and left 48 others injured. Following the incident, security was stepped up at sites in the Czech Republic.

A march to commemorate the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers took place on Saturday in Prague. More than half Prague Segway rental sites have shut down since the Czech capital introduced a ban on the two-wheeled vehicles in most of the city centre. Czech Radio reported that so far this month, police stopped some 18 users, leading to symbolic fines of 100 crowns being handed out. They, however, can run as high as 2,000 crowns (around 74 euros).

Commemorative events are being held around the Czech Republic on Friday and at the weekend to honour the late president Václav Havel on the fifth anniversary of his death.
