The Middle European Colony for Contemporary Art, also known as M.E.C.C.A, is a civic association dedicated to bringing important world issues to the centre of artistic creation. The most recent research points to a new trend in the Czech labor market -doctors are leaving the country to work abroad. With salaries in Western European countries approximately five times higher than the average in the Czech Republic, it is no wonder that the number of applicants for work abroad is on the rise.

Following five hours of debate on Thursday, the three parties of the Czech coalition government -the Social Democrats, Christian Democrats and Freedom Union - reached agreement on the final version of the government's policy agenda. The document will be presented to Parliament for approval on Tuesday, for a vote of confidence in the new government. Daniela Lazarova has been following the story. So, Daniela, what's on the government's agenda for the next two years?

It's an idea that the city hall considered for a number of years before deciding on a final proposal in a public tender: the dream of building a world-class aquarium right in the centre of Prague. The city couldn't have chosen a more prominent site: the capital's beautiful Letna Park whose dominant promontory - the so-called "Stalinak" - once served as a pedestal for an enormous statue of Stalin that was blown-up in the 60s. On Wednesday the Czech Republic won its second medal at the Olympic Games in Athens, but not through one of the country's famous athletes: little-known shooter Lenka Hykova said she was surprised to qualify for the final of the 25m pistol event, never mind take the silver. But take the silver the 19-year-old did, and now her smiling face is splashed all over the newspapers.

Czech police officers are involved in a number of missions around the world where they are helping to stabilize volatile situations or to train cadets for the local forces. Earlier this week 10 such officers returned from a mission in Jordan where they were helping to train the new Iraqi police force. After six months of hard work in a tough environment, they have now been relieved by a new batch of Czech police officers.

Among the summer events taking place in the country's many castles and chateaux is the annual Scottish Highland Games Czech Open at Sychrov Castle, north of Prague. The event has a four year tradition and is attended by around 8 thousand people every summer. It is due to take place this Saturday -ie. Thanks to a programme organized by Prague's Charles University and the Foreign Ministry, Czech emigres, expatriates and their descendants can come the Czech Republic to study Czech language and culture. For more that ten years every August, the summer school has been held in Dobruska a small town in eastern Bohemia nestled in the Orlicke Mountains. Heather Bowne went along.

Angry crowds gathered outside government buildings on Tuesday to protest against Prime Minister Stanislav Gross's appointment of Pavel Prybyl as head of the Office of Government. Mr Gross has been coming under increasing pressure to remove Mr Pribyl amid allegations that he headed a riot-police unit that was sent to break up anti-communist protests on the streets of Prague in 1989.

It's been two years since the "500-year" flood swept through the Vltava River basin and inundated the Czech capital. Along with other cultural treasures, Prague's libraries were hard hit, says the head of the Municipal Library of Prague, Tomas Rehak. On the anniversary of the 2002 floods Pavla Horakova interviewed Mr Rehak and began by asking him about the extent of the damage, both to the archives and the library buildings themselves.
