While the Czech Central Bank has been raising its interest rates over the past two years, in the eurozone they remain low. This has led to more and more Czech companies opting for loans in the common European currency rather than Czech crowns, the news site iHNed reported on Monday.

The Czech Republic is seventh in Europe when it comes to using wearable transactions, such as contactless payment bracelets, watches and rings, suggests a survey carried out by Mastercard.

European nations hold eight of the top 10 spots on UNCTAD's latest Business-to-Consumer (B2C) E-commerce Index, which ranks 152 countries on their readiness to engage in online commerce. The Czech Republic finished a respectable 25th overall, rising six notches since the previous study.

Wine growers in the Czech Republic are expecting one of the lowest harvests in the past three or four years, the daily e15 reported on Tuesday. According to estimates, this year’s grape harvest will range between 70,000 to 80,000 tonnes, which is a drop by around one third on the previous year.

The historical Koh-i-noor factory building in Prague’s Vršovice district is set to be converted into a residential area with apartments, restaurants and other public facilities, the website daily e15 wrote on Friday. The investment project is expected to cost around two billion crowns.

From next year, Czechs will earn at least CZK 14,600 a month thanks to an increase in the country’s minimum wage. Representatives of government parties ANO and the Social Democrats agreed on the change this week.

Confidence in the Czech economy declined again in November, albeit at a slower rate than in October. It is now at its lowest since July 2014, according to data released this week by the Czech Statistics Office.

While the process of digitalization in the public sphere leaves a lot to be desired, Czechs have been exceptionally fast in jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to using digital services, be it Internet banking, shopping over the Internet or communications with firms and institutions online.

Over 330 tons of food and 52 tons of dry goods were donated to Czech charities and NGOs in the National Food Collection held this weekend. That is the best result since the tradition was launched seven years ago. The goods will be distributed among the country’s close to 24,000 homeless people and the 1.5 million living on the poverty line.
