Due to its geographical location in the centre of Europe, the Czech Republic is very much dependent on the quality of its transport infrastructure and its connection to neighbouring countries. However, a new study carried out by Raiffesienbank shows that the quality of roads in the Czech Republic is the sixth lowest in the European Union.
The combination of a cut in state subsidies at home and an increased demand for solar power in Hungary is leading many Czech companies to set up to invest in the country. However, the Czech government’s plans to reduce and eventually completely remove carbon dependency has led some to promote the benefits of increasing support for photovoltaics in the country.
The parties of the coalition government are at odds over the draft budget for 2020. The Social Democrats, the junior partner in the ruling coalition, have demanded an additional 20 billion crowns for their ministries. The market with prefabricated wooden houses in the Czech Republic is experiencing a major boom, the website ihned.cz reports. While ten years ago, there were around one thousand prefabricated wooden houses built in the country, last year it was nearly three thousand. “Over the past year, the demand has grown by one fifth,” Martin Fojtíko of the company Bidli, which specializes in low-energy wooden buildings, told the website.
The Austrian company Kapsch has filed another lawsuit against the Office for the Protection of Competition. It accuses the agency of inaction in ignoring a court ruling under which it was ordered to re-examine Kapsch’s objections to the terms of a tender to operate the tolling system on Czech motorways.
The price of flats in Prague has gotten cheaper by 0.3 percent according to data for the past three months, the first drop since 2011, according to the Czech Statistics Agency. However, experts say they do not expect any sharp decrease or increase. Meanwhile, prices for flats outside Prague continue to grow, Czech Radio’s news site iRozhlas reports.
