The Association of Entrepreneurs has been ringing alarm bells with regard to the depopulation and abandonment of many small villages in rural areas with poor infrastructure and services. According to the outcome of a study commissioned by the association the process can be reversed by money invested into local development and tourism.

Czech Finance Minister and billionaire businessman Andrej Babiš has reacted with anger to a conflict of interest law which he claims was tailored to drive him out of politics. The self-made business tycoon, whose ANO party looks set to win the general elections in October, said he would transfer his assets to a trust fund in order to comply with the legislation, but would file a complaint against it with the European Commission.

Czech petrochemical giant Unipetrol Group announced its financial results on Thursday confirming a net profit of just under 8 billion crowns while the group's total revenues amounted to some 87.8 billion. The net profit, a record for the group, grew yearly by 939 million crowns to 7.9 billion, an increase of 13 percent year on year.

Czech businessman Ivan Zach has become a majority owner of TV Prima, the second biggest commercial channel in the Czech Republic, the Czech News Agency reported on Wednesday. The Swedish company Modern Times Group has sold its 50-percent stake in TV Prima to Denemo Media, owned by businessmen Ivan Zach, who’s now got a 75-percent stake in the broadcaster with Vladimír Komár owning the remainder.

The Czech capital Prague is among twenty cities in the world where foreigners face the lowest initial costs after relocating, according to an analysis carried out by the German-based relocation firm Movinga.de. While transportation and meals in Prague are relatively cheap, apartment rents tend to be higher than in most other post-communist countries.

The Directorate of Waterways of the Czech Republic is set to invest tens of millions of crowns into the renovation of a pier at the Vltava embankment in the centre of Prague. The 500-metre long metal pier, running along the Edvard Beneš embankment between the Štěfánikův and Čechův bridges, was built in 2008 in order to take some strain off the berth on the other side of the river.
