An angry war of words has broken out over government plans to pave the way for a new frequency for terrestrial tv broadcasters as part of moves to free up space for mobile data to be transmitted around the world. Satellite companies say the government move is a massive multi-billion crown giveaway with the country threatened by costly international arbitration proceedings.

The supervisory board of the Czech Republic’s biggest power company, ČEZ, flexed its muscles Thursday and rejected a proposal back by management and three independent advisors to sell the company’s biggest coal-fired power plant.

The Czech state-owned energy giant CEZ has reported a net profit of CZK 8.7 billion for the first quarter of this year. This represented a 13 percent decline year-on-year. However, it was 15 percent higher than in 2015, the company said at a news conference on Tuesday.

The Brno-based tractor manufacturer Zetor Tractors is looking to tackle markets in Africa and the Middle East, according to the news site iDnes. The site reported on Wednesday that the idea had been floated, for example, in the region of Kurdistan in Iraq and that the company also had interest of operations in Africa, specifically in Zambia.

Škoda Auto is planning to make a comeback on India’s compact vehicle market. The Czech car maker is considering launching a mini-SUV and an entry level sedan in 2019, in cooperation with India’s Tata Motors, the Times of India reported on Tuesday. According to the daily, the vehicles may hit the road at the start of 2019.

The Czech National Bank said on Thursday that it would keep interest rates on hold at their current record low level of 0.05 percent. Officials also revised their outlook for Czech economic growth this year to 2.9 percent, up from the 2.8 percent estimate issued in February.
