Czech brewing jewel Plzeňský Prazdroj is going up for sale. That’s the result of the go ahead from the European Commission to the massive worldwide beer deal under which global market leader InBev acquires its nearest rival SABMiller. Plzeňský Prazdroj has been in the hands of South Africa’s SAB since 1999.

Czech company Homeport, which operates a bike sharing scheme in 18 countries in the world, is planning to launch its services in Prague, the daily Hospodářské noviny reported on Wednesday.

Czech beer consumers are growing increasingly fond of canned beer. While in 2015, canned beer sales went up by 16 percent on the previous year, last year the sales went up by no less than a quarter, the daily e15 reported this week, citing data from the Czech Beer and Malt Association.

Business people in the Czech Republic have to deal with acres of red tape and spend far more time processing their tax returns and other paperwork than their peers in some other European states. Frequent legal changes are cited as a major part of the problem.

The average age of the Czech Republic’s car fleet in the first quarter of 2016 increased to over 15 years, the Automotive Industry Association announced on Friday. That’s the highest figure since 1993. Last year, the average age of the country’s car fleet stood at 14.3 years.

Czech firms are having trouble filling positions for manual labour or industrial work, Czech Radio reports. Half-a-year ago, the government launched a pilot programme to attract foreigners, primarily from Ukraine, to the Czech Republic, by speeding up the visa application process. The emphasis was originally on skilled jobs such as IT; it turns out that what some companies need more is to fill vacancies for manual and factory jobs. That in itself is not a problem: what is, is that successful applicants aren’t being processed fast enough.

The head of the largest Czech travel agency Exim Tours, Ferid Nasr, is predicting travel agencies in the country will take a hit this summer, as many Czechs are avoiding classic travel destinations as a result of the migrant crisis and local instability, writes Czech daily Lidové noviny.

The City of Prague is having trouble reaching agreements with property owners in buying up land needed for a planned 10.6 kilometres stretch needed for the construction of a new metro line, line “D”, according to Lidové noviny. The daily reported that of some 800 plots needed, the city had so far had reached deals to buy in only around 15 cases. The deputy mayor overseeing transport has suggested that if agreements can be reached, the properties could be expropriated.

The Czech government has agreed special social welfare payments for soon to be laid-off employees of the OKD mining company, which was declared bankrupt earlier this week.
