A third Czech power company has boosted the ranks of potential bidders for German power assets of Swedish energy company Vattenfall. In fact, Czech companies and joint ventures are the only bidders so far for the sizable portfolio of coal, hydro, and lignite mines.

The Czech state will back a huge investment by a Czech company in Russia. Russia’s fertilizer producer PhosAgro, has contracted Czech technology firm Chemoproject Nitrogen to build a plant.

Czech soft-drink producer Kofola has increased its sales to 5.5 billion crowns, which is the best results in the company’s history. The company’s sales in the first three quarters of the year have increased by over 16 percent year-on-year. Kofola announced the results in a press report released on Monday.

After seven years of posting losses, the Czech Republic’s national carrier Czech Airlines is likely to end in the black this year. The company is likely to post a profit of around 250 million crowns for 2015. Václav Řehoř, the head of the state run company Český Aeroholding, which holds a 20-percent stake in the Czech Airlines, confirmed the profit expectations to the business daily Hospodářské noviny on Tuesday.

The investment group Rockaway Capital has agreed to buy the second biggest internet retailer on the Czech market, Mall.cz, and the price comparison website, Heureka.cz, for CZK 5.4 billion. The deal is being financed by the billionaires Daniel Křetínský and Patrik Tkáč and the PPF Group owned by the richest Czech, Petr Kellner, the Czech News Agency reported on Monday.

Summer may be long gone but it will be a while since this year’s – with a heatwave that lasted forever – is forgotten, not least by potato farmers. Taters wilted under the heat and pickles curled up like a dead witch’s feet. Now Agriculture Minister Marian Jurečka had some good news for potato producers: if they post losses of more than 30 percent for 2015, they will be reimbursed.
