Miro Smolak has raised the ire of many in the Czech art establishment with his grandiose idea to build a Palace of Art. The gallery is to house an extensive collection of works by the Spanish surrealist, Salvador Dali. The idea of having a Dali gallery has made for headline grabbing news, but what has been discussed less is how Miro Smolak landed one of the biggest names in architecture, Daniel Libeskind, to design the project.

2004 is the Year of Czech Music and the Prague Spring International Music Festival has taken that into account, concentrating on the world-renowned Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. During the festival Prague audiences will get to hear all nine of Dvorak's symphonies, including the rather underestimated first four symphonies. The festival always concludes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 but this year's closing concert on June 2nd will feature Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" instead.

In the Arts this week we visit the Bookworld 2004 trade fair, which this year focuses on literature from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. And we take you to Kino Svetozor, a cinema with an interesting history which is now showing Czech films with English subtitles every single day.

Prague Castle is one of the most visited places by tourists to the Czech Republic. Until recently, a day on the castle grounds was enough to see all there was to see - the St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane, the changing of the guards, and of course the various exhibitions on show. But the recent opening of a permanent exhibition in the Old Royal Palace now requires that you devote more than just a day to a complete tour. Dita Asiedu spoke to the curator of "the Story of Prague Castle", Milena Bravermanova, to find out what exactly the exhibition

For the fifth year in a row, Prague audiences had a chance this spring to see a Shakespeare play delivered in the original. It was not performed by any distinguished Shakespearean company from Great Britain but by students of the Charles University department of English and American studies.

Thursday saw the premier of one of the National Theatre's most unique productions - the opera Nagano, featuring the Czech ice-hockey team's victory at the winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, in 1998.

Tulip Café is located in an out of the way street close to the National Theatre. Nothing on the outside suggests it could offer more than a delicious café late and a big hunk of mouth watering cheesecake - but many people know better. Tulip Café has become the meeting place for theatre loving members of the Anglo-American community in Prague. It is home to Second Sundays an ex pats theatre group established in September of 2003. Its dozen or so members have since produced a number of cabaret performances at Tulip Café.

Our guest in today's Arts is young Czech jazz guitarist David Doruzka. Born in 1980, David started performing regularly at the age of fourteen. Ten years ago he received the "Best Talent of the Year" award from the Czech Jazz Society and in the following years he performed with leading musicians on the Czech jazz scene. In 1999 David Doruzka went to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. Last June he recorded his first CD, called "Hidden Paths" in the United States. It was officially released here in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. When David Doruzka
