We are back with our Czech-teaching series focusing on animal idioms in the Czech language. Today's episode is dedicated to man's best friend.

Hello and welcome to Radio Prague's Czech teaching programme. With the new season we bring you a brand new series. As in our previous series, we'll continue to explore Czech idioms but this time focused on nature. The first part of our new series will concentrate on animal idioms - and as you might have guessed from the jingle, farm animals will be first. And today we start with the horse.

Welcome to the last episode of our Czech language series - Czech From Head to Toe. Today's body part is the legs - and also feet, as popular Czech uses just one word for both: noha - and in the plural - nohy. The number of idioms using these words is overwhelming, so we'll go through just a few of them.

We are approaching the end of the series and this time we focus on idioms containing the word knee - koleno, or its plural - kolena.

Today's body part is the hand. The Czech word ruka and its plural form - ruce is commonly used for both hands and arms. The number of phrases and fixed expressions using the words is overwhelming - you can try and count how many you can think of in your own language.

Czech from head to toe is back after a week, this time to take a closer look at one of the most vital organs in the human body - the heart. Although the heart is primarily responsible for keeping up the circulation of blood in our bodies, in popular opinion, the heart - srdce - is the centre of all emotion.

From head to toe - that is how we explore the Czech language in our programme. More precisely, we concentrate on Czech idioms which refer to parts of the human body. Our focus today is on the work krk, which translates as both neck and throat. So if you say bolí mě v krku you have a sore throat, but if you say bolí mě za krkem it means you have a stiff neck.

Welcome to Radio Prague's weekly programme in which we examine the Czech language from head to toe, or in other words we look at idioms which refer to parts of the body. Today's topic is - teeth. The Czech word for tooth is zub and the plural is zuby.

In our language series, in which we explore Czech from head to toe, we are still staying on the head and our today's topic is hair. Czech distinguishes between bodily hair, facial hair and the hair on your head. The word for that is vlasy. It has a singular form, too - one hair is vlas. Whether they have blond, black, straight or curly hair, lots of it or none - Czechs use the word frequently in conversation because it is a part of many phrases and idioms.

Hello and welcome to a new episode of our language series in which we look at the Czech language from head to toe. Today's body part is the nose, the prominent part of the human face which serves as the organ of smell. Both its position on the face and its function inspired our forefathers to coin idioms and sayings using the word nose or nos.
