Hello and welcome to the ABC of Czech. It's time again to take a break from new vocabulary and listen to someone who decided to study Czech at university and has a few useful tips for learners of the language. Karl Anderson comes from Sweden. Recently he took a bike trip from Stockholm to Budapest and stopped in Prague for a few days, the city, as he says, which had become his second home. I first asked Karl what had made him take up Czech.

Hello and welcome again to our regular Czech language programme, the ABC of Czech. It's time now for the letter "N" which stands for names. The typical Czech has two names - a first name and surname. Those who have been baptised have one or more middle names but very few people ever use them.

In recent editions we burdened you with a huge amount of new vocabulary, so today we can take a break and look at something more entertaining than new words. It's the bad translations into English which are still plentiful in the Czech Republic, especially in the tourist and restaurant business.

Hello and welcome to the ABC of Czech. We've reached M in the alphabet and our topic today is "money". Although the Czech Republic plans to start using the single European currency in a few years' time, the country still uses its national currency the crown or "koruna".

Today's episode is a very warm and romantic one. We have reached the letter L, which in our series can't mean anything else but love. Romantic love, motherly love, charity - all that is láska in Czech.

K is our letter for today and the topic is kitchen... or cuisine, if you like, because the Czechs have just one word for both kitchen and cuisine - kuchynì.
