San Jose Sharks forward Lukáš Radil scored his first goal in NHL on
Saturday night, helping his team to win over the host Arizona Coyotes 5-3.
It was the sixth game of the season for the 28-year-old Czech after signing with the Sharks in April. Another Czech, Tomáš Hertl, also scored an empty-net goal for San Jose with 51 seconds to play.
Mid-sized Czech brewer, Bernard, has reported record production figures for
2018. The brewer produced over 356,000 hectoliters of beer between January
and November, exceeding last year’s production by around 24,000
Around 22 percent of Bernards production was exported in 2018, which is around one fifth more than in the previous year. The biggest export destinations are Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Russia.
Narek Sargsyan, the nephew of former Armenian president and prime minister
Serzh Sargsyan, was detained by Czech police in Prague on Friday, the Czech
News Agency reported on Sunday.
Armenia’s Police Chief Valery Osipyan he would be extradited to Armenia later, adding that the prosecution was currently dealing with the paperwork. Narek Sargsyan was internationally wanted since July 2018 for illegal possession and acquisition of firearms and explosives and drug trafficking.
American film production company Fox Searchlight has bought the rights to a
book by Czech journalist Jaroslav Kmenta called “Český špion or Czech
Spy”, the Czech News Agency reported on Sunday. The book tells the true
story of Erwin van Haarlem, a Czechoslovak Cold War secret agent whose
stolen identity broke the heart of an innocent woman who thought she’d
found her long-lost son.
Kmenta was approached by David Klawans, an executive producer of Argo with Ben Affleck, which won the best picture Academy Award for 2013. Fox Searchlight has also acquired right to “The Spy With No Name”, another book about the case by US author Jeff Maysh.
Average temperatures for the season are expected in the coming four-week
period. According to the long-term weather forecast of the Czech
Hydro-Meteorological Institute issued on Saturday, we can expect daytime
temperatures of around two degrees Celsius.
Rainfall levels in the next two weeks should be slightly above the long-term average.
The Czech Republic’s Dominik Dvořák and Jakub Nosek finished fourth in
the World Cup season’s opening two-man bobsled race in Sigulda, Latvia on
Saturday, securing the second best result in the country’s history.
The Czechs finished 92 hundredths of second behind the winning German team, consisting of Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schueller.
A number of renovation projects are planned for Prague Castle, one of the
city’s most visited landmarks, the Prague Castle Administration spokesman
told the Czech News Agency on Saturday.
The administration is set to renovate the façade and roof of the left wing of the New Royal Palace and the residence in the Royal Garden. Works will also continue on the Renaissance building of the Supreme Burgrave’s House.
The overall cost of the repairs at Prague castle next year is expected to exceed 300 million crowns. Most of the expenses, around 75 million crowns, will be used to repair the interiors of the residence in the Royal Garden, where the presidents of Czechoslovakia once lived.
Skiing season was launched in the country’s biggest ski centre in Špindlerův Mlýn in the Krkonoše Mountains on Saturday. According to ski-operators, there are around 40 centimeters of artificial snow on the slopes. Several ski centers around the country have been open since last weekend. The cross-country ski trails in the country remain closed due to lack of snow.
