Cerny Kuba - Black Jake (Total cooking time: 75 minutes)

You may have played black jake but have you ever eaten it (or him)? Well, you can try with our recipe. Beware, though: this is by no means a light evening meal.

Ingredients:
500 g peeled barley
1 large onion
1 head of garlic
100 g lard
handful of dried mushrooms
salt, caraway, marjoram, ground pepper


Rinse the barley and boil in salty water with caraway until soft. In the meantime, put the mushrooms in water, chop the onion and mash the garlic with salt. Fry the onion on a bigger part of the lard. Boil the mushrooms in salty water for 20 minutes and then cut into small pieces. Mix the onion, garlic, mushrooms, barley and spices together. Grease a baking bowl with lard, pour the mixture in and bake in the oven. Serve with a pickle or sauerkraut.
