Subject of the stamp: This game was first mentioned in Scotland in the 16th century. The Royal Scottish Curling Club was set up in Edinburgh in 1838. The audience at the Olympic Games saw this game already in 1924 and 1928, and again no earlier than in Nagano, Japan in 1998. Curling is not a well known game in the Czech Republic. The Czech Curling Association was established in 1990 as an unincorporated association of several Prague clubs. It took further six years before the establishment of other clubs outside Prague began. The Czech championship matches were first organized in 1991 in three categories, the Czech representatives attend the World Cup tournaments as well as the World and European Championships. Recently a special, completely barrierless curling hall was completed at Prague 4 which meets the demanding and specific criteria of this game and belongs to the best in the world.
