A typical Czech menu, seen on the stamp, is roasted pork or goose or duck with potato or bread dumplings and red or white stewed cabbage. Greatly appreciated is also roasted beef in cream sauce with bread dumplings. The world famous Czech beer is the best to quench the thirst after such a substantial lunch and it also helps to digest it. The founders of the traditional Czech cuisine were two exceptional women. The writer and patriot Magdaléna Dobromila Rettigová (1785-1845) compiled and published oral recipes, which codified the basis of traditional Czech cuisine. The excellent cook and pedagogue Marie Janků-Sandtnerová (1885-1946) laid the basis of modern Czech cuisine which is further used by many even today.
