Subject of the stamp: In mid-13th century the original Benedictine monastery from 1101 was rebuilt and heavily fortified. After its burning down by the Hungarian army in 1468 it became a ruin. In the 2nd half of the 16th century the building was rebuilt into a renaissance chateau and, at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, baroquized by the Wallenstein family. The most valuable part of the building is a three-navy basilica of St Prokop (originally the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary) erected in 1240-60 in the transitional romanesque-gothic style. The basilica’s interior is mainly gothic while the system predominantly revealed in the exterior is a rich late romanesque formal system. The northern open portico features a monumental portal called Porta paradisi - The Gate to the Paradise. The presbytery with a vaulting of eight ribs has three rose windows and 15 small windows in three horizontal rows.
