Subject of the stamp: the 60 h postage stamp Karlštejn by Jaroslav Šváb and the engraver Jan Mráček issued in 1960 in the series of definitive stamps Castles and Chateaux. J. Šváb was born in 1906 in Hodonín. He attended the School of Applied Arts as a student of J. Benda and F. Kysela. In 1938-1949 he ran his own private school of graphic design Officina Pragensis. He worked for leading Prague publishers as a designer of book covers, graphic designs as well as an illustrator. His main benefit was book design in which he used his distinctive style. He designed whole editions for which he won a number of prizes. At the same time he created graphic sheets, posters, puppets, toys, etc. J. Šváb died in 1999. J. Mráček was an engraver of banknotes and postage stamps. The coupon, which will be used together with the stamps in a separate philatelic booklet with 8 stamps and 4 coupons, is dedicated to the European Exhibition of Postage Stamps Brno 2005.
