From the early 18th century the legendary hill Radhošť in the Beskydy Mountains was linked to the cult of Radegast, the god of the Slavic pagans Ratars, worshipped as the god of the Sun, fire, harvest and hospitality. His statue is located on the crest of Radhošť, between the Chapel of SS. Cyril and Methodius and the Pustevny building. The sand stone statue created in 1929 in the U.S.A. by the sculptor Albín Polášek (1879-1965), a native of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, arrived at Moravia a year later and was erected in 1931. The statue presently displayed at the same place is a copy from 1998.
