Subject of the stamp: A. Procházka, a Czech painter and illustrator, took his studies with V. Bukovac, H. Schwaiger and M. Švabinský at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He was a member of the Eight group, the Mánes Association of Fine Arts, the Brno Group of Artists, etc. His early works were influenced by E. Munch, V. van Gogh, H. Daumier and El Greco. Later he arrived at cubism, using an original way of developing its premises. In the 1930s he dealt with pastoral composition, mythology and allegory, and gradually developed his own version of neo-classicism. He also created both monumental works and illustrations. The engraved version of the painting Prometheus brings us back to his cubistic period.
