| Subject of the stamp: | Agnolo Bronzino (1503 - 1572 Eleonore from Toledo (after 1540), National Gallery in Prague The Italian Renaissance painter A. Bronzino (a pseudonym of Angelo di Cosimo Allori) was one of the most important Florence mannerists. Influenced by Rafael, Michelangelo and S. del Piombo, Bronzino painted altar pictures, decorations, wall paintings, allegories and portraits. His portraits are characterized by their cold objectivity and precision, and their low degree of emotion. Bronzino became a popular portrait painter of Florence aristocracy, and later he became the court painter of the Duke of Medici and his wife Eleonore from Toledo whose picture can be seen engraved in this stamp. |
