These stamps are issued to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Czech fire-fighting movement. The organisation with the largest membership is the Association of Firemen from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Established in 1991 as a civic association and the legal successor to the Fire Prevention Union, it has more than 310,000 members of all age categories. The permanent exhibition of the history of Czech firemen, which was a source of inspiration for the author of the issue designs, is at the Přibyslav castle.
