Subject of the stamp: The oldest surviving stone viewing tower in the Czech Republic is in Český Krumlov district. It was built in 1825 by Prince Josef Schwarzenberg on Kle, the highest peak in Blanský forest (1083 m above sea level). The tower was built in a pseudo-gothic style by the architect Jan Sallaba and is an example of high romanticism. A historical hikers' refuge stands immediately under the tower. The slopes of Kle are a nature reserve, and a chair lift leads to the top. In clear weather, it is possible to see as far as the Alps. An observatory was built here in the 1950s, and many notable scientists had worked there.
