| Subject of the stamps: | At the suggestion of Iran, the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2001 the UN Year of Dialogue Between Civilisations. In connection with this, the World Postal Union has invited member countries to issue a joint postage stamp on this theme and organised an international competition, to which 29 designs were submitted. Slovenia's winning design will become the basis for a joint stamp issue in member countries of the World Postal Union which show interest in this project. The purpose of the issue is to draw the world's attention to the diversity and great differences between the cultures of this world, whose peaceful coexistence and hope for the future depends on mutual recognition, understanding, respect and dialogue between cultures. | |
